Spark Plugs...Who Has Changed Them Themselves?

I wanted to be the first to start a thread in this forum so I am wondering if anyone here has changed their plugs on a V6. I am over due according to the dealer and I don't feel like paying $300 to have it done. Someone said something about a plenam having to be removed. I really don't wrench too much on the engine but I have replace many spark plugs...How hard could it be?

No worries...I appreciate you checking.

just got off the phone with sean and he said that you only need to take out the intake, because it covers 3 spark plugs and you need 5/8 socket head to replace the spark plugs. let me know how it turns out?
good luck!
Jimmy

Got some plugs and I might be changing them out this weekend at our first LX mod party.

BOS/SRT 04-24-2010 08:55 AM

Cool! What plugs you go with? For those that havnt bought they're plugs yet, go to www.RockAuto.com, they have the best prices. I got a full set of iridium NGK's for cheap.

DaBlackPearl 08-04-2010 01:50 AM

I bought plugs months ago but still have not installed them. Car is still running strong.

lol. yea it's a shocker when you first find out, but the V6's don't have that many.

MrFleming007 08-04-2010 11:28 AM

Yup, 16 of them. I've changed the plugs on two of these cars now. It just takes a little time. Make sure you get some dielectric grease too for the plug boots, as well as some antisieze for the plug threads. You're also going to need a 10mm socket to remove each one of the coil packs. once the coil packs are unbolted, you will have to pull them straight out- this might take a bit of force depending on how long its been since they were off. After the coil pack is out, you will have access to the plugs. They are located about 8" into the motor, so you'll need at least one socket extension to get to them. Hardest plugs are the ones located near the firewall, just not much room to work. Just take your time and you'll be fine!

Oh, gap I believe is a .045, and torque is 13 ft/lb (this is if I remember right!) :D

nice write up on how to. his is a little different, being a V6. thanks bro!

btw, your right, the rears where a bitch to get out, mine were in for 50k. they were in there pretty good, my strut brace didn't help either.

Ahh hell, a V6! Then you'll be done in a third of the time, and PLEASE, make sure you only buy 6 plugs, not the 16 mentioned in my previous post! :o
